Can I become a paralegal in California?

It's up to the firms you apply to after disclosure of the conviction. You don't have to have a state certificate to be a paralegal, just trained or trainable.
If you seek schooling and state certificate, you'll have to disclose the conviction; then it's up to the school and state to decide whether to allow you.
For help with other private employment, you might consider seeking expungement of the conviction, if you qualify by having successfully completed all probation terms, and not been sentenced to any prison time. If you think you qualify, and are serious about getting it done, feel free to contact me.
