Hello,
I am the new Director of a non-proft organization at a Sountern California University (UCSD) and I would like to know how businesses can qualify for a tax write off if they donate to my organization. Can you please help me?

The businesses don't qualify. You do. Either you are an IRS recognized 501c(3) or you are not. If not, they can't write off donations. If you are, they can.
