Legal Question in Business Law in California

Hired someone to write a book.

I paid a company $4500.00 to write a book for me almost two years ago and have not received anything. I have left numerous messages on their answering machine to call me but they do not respond. They are located in the State of Washington. What can I do to get my money back? I got them off of Guru.com

Sounds like garden-variety breach of contract. Suit in California on a theory that the contract was made here probably wouldn't survive a challenge to the jurisdiction of the California courts; you're here, they're in Washington, and the only link is via the 'net. I suggest finding out about Washington's small claims laws including whether their jurisdictional limit is greater than $4,500.

You'd better take legal action soon to avoid problems with statutes of limitations. Sue them here, since you entered the agreement here.
