Legal Question in Business Law in California

Job Offer

I recently applied for the position of

an Excel Expert.

That's the e-mail I got back. Is this

kind of job legal?

''Our company mainly develops

securely web databases for US

companies and our contractors have

ability to pay us only with incountry

bank transfers.

You have to receive the payments

from our contractors by bank

transfer,

substract 10% commission and

resend the remaining cash to our

company by western union

cash transfer for example. Your

commission is paid to you instantly

every day.

All the taxes are paid by us, we also

pay all the fees connected with the

transfers. You can choose any bank

in your country to open account

with.

You can open new account with any

banking institution in your country or

use your own account,

it's up to your convenience and

doesn't matter to us.''

Sincerely,

Chris

You must be the last person on Earth who hasn't heard of the fake check scam. See fakechecks.org

Re: Job Offer

Run the other way. Never accept job offers from people who can't spell and want to access your bank account.

Re: Job Offer

The job doesn't exist. This is a scam to get your money. At least you recognized it smelled; obviously others don't until too late.

Re: Job Offer

As others have noted, this is almost certainly a form of the Nigerian check scam. The arrangement described in the email is probably legal (at least I don't see anything illegal about it), but what matters is whether the transfers will actually happen. Only half of them will -- the half that involve funds leaving your account.
