Is it illegal to plant a recording device in an unsuspecting office? If it is found, are there legal ramifications?

Re: Planted Recording Device
You can do it if you are a law enforcement agency with an appropriate warrant or possibly if you have no intent to eavesdrop on or record a conversation where the participant(s) have a reasonable expectation of privacy, but in general planting a "bug" in someone's office, bedroom, etc. with intent to eavesdrop or record what goes on is illegal in California.

Duh, yes. It could subject you to felony charges.
