Legal Question in Business Law in California
No Reimbursements To Date!
Hi. I started a job a little over a month ago and it required me to travel throughout USA. I had to use my own money for that, and I was supposed to get reimbursed for it within a week. It has been over a month now, and there has been no reimbursement checks. My account has gone into overdraft because they keep on charging airline tickets and hotel rooms to it. I have paid over 400 dollars this month in just overdraft fees. They owe me over $2000 in reimbursements. I have emailed them several times, and they say I should get it in a few days, which never happens. I have even called them but they just say they will call me back and even that never happens. What can I do in this matter? I appreciate your help. Thanks.

get an attorney, and/or file a complaint with the Labor Commissioner and ask them to help.

This company is very likely in deep financial trouble, or if not, it is so poorly run it soon will be. I would suggest investigating its credit history and perhaps question what they told you about themselves when they recruited you for the position.
Re: No Reimbursements To Date!
This is your first job, right? You need to develop a backbone. Tell your boss you quit and tell him why. Do this immediately before you get in any deeper. Tell him you will be back when the company signs your travel policy which includes: 1. Your hours run portal to portal (when you leave home until you arrive at your hotel). 2. All travel to be booked by you (not some airhead secretary who makes you change planes in Atlanta at midnight). 3. All travel to be paid using company issued CC or cash in advance. 4. Minimum 2 1/2 star hotels (e.g. Courtyard). 5. First or business class air for international flights and all domestic flights over 5 hrs. 6. Overtime or paid comp time for hours worked over 40 - you will do no false timesheets. 7. Government per diem for all meals. 8. No shared rooms or rental cars. 9. Any expense report item not disapproved within 5 days of submission is deemed approved. 10. No receipts for cabs or other expenses under $25. 11. Company laptop. Get the idea? Throw in enough terms that you can graciously give back one or two. Now stop being their banker and stay home untill they sign your contract addendum. If you lose your job, sue for the unpaid expenses and sic the Labor Commissioner on them for each and every unpaid hour.
