Legal Question in Business Law in California

Selling non-licensed items

I have a really great idea for my local NFL team, (a whole line of women's clothing). Would it be illegal for me to make them & sell them?

If you use any logos or identification of teams, you'd get your butt sued in a heartbeat, and all your contraband goods confiscated, unless you had approval and a contract with the team and NFL. How is it you think they wouldn't protect their trademark they spend so much money promoting with other logo items? If it IS such a great idea, feel free to contact me about getting legal help in negotiating such contract.

Yes, assuming you want to use the team's name, logo, or other identifying mark. You would need the team's permission, and possibly the NFL's as well. Teams do not give such permission easily, lest they undermine the value of contracts they have already signed with established manufacturers.

Even if you can get such permission, it will come at a price. Not only will the team expect a portion of your earnings, it will probably also insist that you meet a variety of conditions which you may or may not be willing to meet.
