Legal Question in Business Law in California

slander

My boss yelled at me in front of everyone at work, and called me stupid loud enough for all to hear. I'm really upset about this, is this legal?

Re: slander

The right word may be defamation. The boss did wrong and yes this is actionable. You have a claim against your boss for defamation and for harassment in the work place. If you have an HR department be careful. HR's job is to protect the company not you. They will help you only if it is in the interest of the company. If the boss is an important person for the company (owner?)then HR will act as an information gatherer to report to the boss what you are saying. I would recommend contacting a lawyer.

Of course. Nobody said life was fair, or that management had to be good. You can leave or stay, your choice.
