I want to start up a sitting service for babysitting, house sitting, and animal sitting. In order to do this what legal steps do I have to take? I would also like to have a website that displays my information. I am curious about that tax laws as well.

Depending on where you are located, you may be required to obtain a business license and a ficticous business name license. No license is required to set up a website on the internet. As for taxes, as a sole proprietor, you would file a schedule C with the IRS and pay self employment tax. If you wanted to shield yourself from personal legal liability, you could consider becoming an LLC or S Corporation. Please contact me with any further questions.

The website is easy and the least of your issues. The proposed business however would require a business license, insurance, tax payments, and compliance with all local and state government licensing for childcare, and possibly for animal care. You're proposing the be more than the 'kid next door' that does occasional babysitting. If serious about doing this, hire a local attorney to guide you away from legal problems.
