Legal Question in Business Law in California
Starting a new business while filing for a divorce.
I am in business for myself as an independent contractor and would like to set myself up as an LLC, however I will be filing for a divorce in the next 30 days. How should I protect my future business? Should I wait until my divorce is final or is there a way where I don't have to put my business on hold without my spouse attaching onto the benefits of 50%?

Re: Starting a new business while filing for a divorce.
Make the business decision without regard to the divorce, nothing you do will avoid a property settlement with your spouse. Talk to your divorce attorney about dealing with the business assets and valuation in the divorce, and then to a corporate attorney to put the decisions into effect. Feel free to contact me for help in the corporate formation.
