Legal Question in Business Law in California
Waiver/Consent required for written testimonial?
I have a number of written testimonials from customers that I want to use in my product marketing. Do I need to have people sign a legal document for either ...
1. To secure consent to use the testimonial.
2. To make sure that the person giving the testimonial doesn't think they have rights to any compensation in exchange for their testimonial.

Re: Waiver/Consent required for written testimonial?
Congratulations on having fans. Why would you want to intimidate your fan base by asking them to sign some legal document? Write each fan a nice personal letter (use mail merge) saying, "Dear Mrs. Foobar, we value you as a customer and we greatly appreciate your testimonial. Our plans are to use your testimonial on our website and for other marketing purposes, using your initials only, unless we hear otherwise from you. Thank you again for your support."
