Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

About 3 weeks ago I was involved in an incident at six flags magic mountain California. I am 16 years old. I was caught stealing a sweater that cost $28.00. They took me to a room and called my parents. They also took my season pass and banned me from the park for a year. This only took about 20 minutes then they released me to my sister who is 18 to go home. I just received a civil demand notice demanding $250.00. I believe this is absurd and I do not have the money to pay this. Do I have to pay it? What will happen if I don't? Thank you

Pay it or not, your choice. Either way, the park can still file misdemeanor criminal charges against you. If serious about hiring counsel to help if you get charged, feel free to contact me.
