Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
business matter
I jave a food processing buss in CA I am in compliance with all agencies. I've had annual inspections with all pertaining insp. I had a visit from fire dept due to a report of possible begining fire. which was only us cooking our regular stuff. during this I was told by fire insp. that because my hood had no extinguishing system they were shutting us down. I have extinguishers through out which was required during my annual inpection. No one advised us on requiring this system. I asked why they were shutting down my production if I hadn't been required this sytem. They made us shut off our gas line naturraly had to dispose of everything we were cooking. and I'm stuck with approx $15k of product that will go bad until I can get this sys. I feel it was unfair of this because It's not that I denied or didn't comply with instalation of the sys. but because of their mistake I'm loosing over $20k in merchandise, Loosing my sales & production for a whole mo. but also have to come up with $20k to install this sys. ASAP With economy being so bad I know this will have a great impact on my business. We are very small and have only been around for a year. please advise!!!!!!!

Re: business matter
You've found out government isn't any more 'fair' than is the rest of life. You have appeal rights that you should discuss asap with local counsel experienced in such regulatory matters. You may be able to negotiate some temporary relief from their order, or your attorney may be able to get a restraining order delaying the shut down. Call your local Lawyer Referral Service if you can't locate one elsewhere.
