Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Can CA State compel defendant to login to laptop via fingerprint?

Very generally, I am wondering if the State of CA can compel a defendant to logon to their laptop in order to access data that is otherwise encrypted and access with a fingerprint scan and typed-in password. At the federal level, same question? Thanks very much I appreciate it.

A court could order you to supply a password, if it were proved that you were in possession of the password. Personally, I find passwords hard to remember.

You can not be compelled to testify against yourself or give evidence. A proper assertion of your rights could stop this process. You should obtain experienced counsel quickly if you are facing criminal charges. Contact me if interested in doing so.
