Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

I was caught shoplifting three years ago at Sears. The police were not involved and I was never summoned to court. However, I did receive a notice in the mail from lawyers associated with the company that I was being charged a fine. The fine was around four hundred dollars. I payed it, no excuses because I messed up and I regret what I did. I am now 21 and in nursing school about to graduate. I am going to undergo a life scan and I'm wondering if this could possibly come up. Please help!

If no criminal charges were filed, then you have no criminal record. It is unlikely the store recorded a 'credit' event that would show on your credit report.

I wouldn't apply for work at any retailer or financial institution -- you are probably in some private theft databases -- but nursing school shouldn't be a problem.
