Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

collecting on a judgement

I won a settlement of about 10,500 dollars.I called my ex-employer and he said he wasnt going to pay! The labor board has nothing to do with it anymore since their decision was appealed and I won my case in superior court. I know to go after his bank account and assets , but how? How long do I have to do this ? Im in Ca and he's in Va.Any help will be appreciated.
