Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Demotion

I work for a Title Insurance Company in California. I have been employede for 25 years. We merged with another Title Company, and I was demoted. I am a female, 54 years of age, and African American. The people in my same job description are younger than my self, and caucasian, also with less time on the job. What are my rights?

Re: Demotion

To bring a discrimination claim, IF you have evidence of discrimination. Speculation is not evidence. Just because you are black is coincidental until you prove otherwise. Mergers always result in duty changes or terminations. However, with your facts stated, it does appear to be problematic for the company to demote you below younger, less experienced staff; it would be easy to state a claim that appears valid. Feel free to contact me if serious about getting legal help in this. I've been doing discrimination litigation for over 20 years.
