Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

discrimination

My children attend a public Elementary school in Rancho Palos verdes. A few years ago the Korean families deceided that they would start their own seperate PTA. They claimed that the PTA did not have any Korean People on the board and they felt discriminated against. I was not at the school that year so I do not know how elections were held etc. They freely give money to the school through different fundraisers and the zschool gladly accepts them. the school is more than 50% Korean byt he way. If I wanted to join their group ldot be allowed because I am caucasion. In addition many of the Korean families have mad it very clear that their children will only play with their own. This appals me and i am curious if this is segrgation and discrimination. Is the school equally responsible for allowing this to continue and for accepting funds from them?

Re: discrimination

While it might be argued that it is a form of discrimination if you are denied admission to that 'Korean' PTA, for which the school is likely not responsible, what is your goal in this? To sue and take money from them that would otherwise go to the school? If your goal is only to open that PTA up to others, then you must have actually applied and been denied, not just assumed you would be denied. Your attorney could then present a claim and demand to them, making a good faith attempt at settlement, before considering filing such suit [assuming there are grounds for such suit].
