Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Discrimination to a pregnant woman

I got hired and told my trainer I was pregnant; they let me go through all my training. My first day actually working, my manager told the owner of the company that I was pregnant and he said I needed a doctor's note and a call from my doctor. I presented him with a doctor's note signed by my doctor and he sent me home again telling me that he needed to speak with my doctor. I had a nurse call him and tell him that my doctor couldn't release my medical information and that my note should be enough. The owner still sent me home and told me he'd call me back to work once he got a call from my doctor. My doctor called him a week later and I left him several messages trying to go back to work but he hasn't gotten back to me at all. He won't answer or return my calls. Do I have a case for discrimination against a pregnant woman?

Re: Discrimination to a pregnant woman

You won't know the final nature of your pregnancy accommodation/discrimination claim until you know what the outcome of the discussions are. However, you've also got claims of privacy rights violations. If you've decided you're ready to bring a claim, start by filing a Complaint with the Dept of Fair Employment and Housing, which is required before you can file any lawsuit for discrimination. You could hire an attorney make to make 'demands' upon the company now, to do whatever it is that you want. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.
