Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Double Jeopardy

Were my 5th Amendment Rights violated (twice)?

I was recently taken into custody (in Santa Monica)

for failure to appear in court for a traffic citation.

I was arraigned at a Santa Monica court, where I

pleaded no contest, was fined and ordered released.

To my surprise, I was then taken to Los Angeles

Maximum Security Correctional Facility, where I was

incarcerated with the general population. After 3

days, I was taken to a Los Angeles Superior Court,

where I was again arraigned for the same charges,

pleaded no contest, was fined, and ordered released. In

addition to time in prison, the impounding of my car, and the fines, my driver's

license was automatically revoked as a result of my

incarceration.
