Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Expulsion for pregnancy
A girl was asked to leave my girlfriend's private school last year for being pregnant. Key word ''asked to leave''. My gf is pregnant if this happens to her I would like to know our options. We are on summer vacation right now but if the administration ''asks her to leave'' I'm not giving up with out a fight. It is also a high school if that clears anything up.

Re: Expulsion for pregnancy
And what 'principle' is it that you think 'you' would be fighting for? Private schools generally have enrollment contracts and policies containing 'immorality and scandalous behavior' expulsion provisions that are quite enforceable, if not always enforced when they should be. It's a form of, and no different than, penalties for any other offensive, outrageous, 'scandalous' behavior or misconduct. In the military it is called 'conduct unbecoming' as grounds for discharge. 'Everybody does it' is not the same as 'proper' or 'acceptable' behavior, nor a defense. The result of her conduct is called 'illegitimacy' for a reason. There is your societal morals lesson for the day. Now, if the girl is expelled, her parents would have to base any opposition on the terms, rights and remedies of the school contract and policies available to them. You have no say in it. For that matter, you might be subject to the same penalties for your 'part' in this sad tale.

If you have a pregnant GF in high school, you've got more problems than she does.
