Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
facial piercings and discrimination
I have had them for over 3 years. When I was hired, my employer knew about them. The owners son told me just to make sure that the visible ball on my tongue ring was clear, and it have been for over a year. 2 months after being hired, I was promoted and will be promoted again next week. As far as I knew, California had passed a law prohibiting an employer from reprimanding an employee for having 2 facial piercings. I thought it was discriminatory.

Nice try, no brass ring. Piercings are NOT a protected category of immutable characteristics like race, age, sex, etc. There are no protections for you, and most employers I know would decline to hire you, or fire you when you first got piercings, based upon their judgment call that you don't have an acceptable attitude, appearance or presentation in the workplace. You have an employer that tolerates you, keep them happy with you.

Congratulations on being promoted, Mr. or Ms. Tackle Box. So what's your legal problem?
