Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Forced labor & civil rights
I know someone who was exploited & coerced into working 16
hrs/day 6/days a week for $800. month cleaning cooking and
taking care of a child. there were no taxes or benifits of any
kind paid for her. The house slave was from the Philippines
and did not have any legal papers, threatened to be turned
over to INS. Something went wrong with the child and the
mother and elegal house slave went to hospital. The doctor
Called Children services and when they came she immediatly
began blaming the house slave. The house slave is in La
County Jail now. I hear she was interrogated by la Sheriffs for
8 hours and forced to say she did something she didn't do.
This person is very naieve, don't know English that well and
had no clue of her rights. She may have been exploited in
everyway. This is her name and address at County Jail.
This is a contact # for anymore infomation on this situation,

She needs to apply for the Public Defender to represent her in the criminal charges. The court will do so when she first appears.
She also needs to get an attorney to sue for the money owed, and the wrongs done her by that family. Feel free to contact me if she is serious about getting legal help in doing so.
Re: Forced labor & civil rights
The first thing she needs to do is have legal representation on the criminal charge. You might contact Legal Aid to get started. Also, there are immigration projects in Los Angeles who might be willing to get involved.
You also might re-post this message on Law Guru for both immigration and criminal defense attorneys.
Re: Forced labor & civil rights
I would be interested in hearing from a relative of this individual. I would be interested in hearing more detailed facts including her booking number, next court date, and any available information about the employer.
