my landlords agent served us a three day notice, when the after abot 8 days later we recieved an unlawful datainer, can he do that if we have been here for almost 3 years? doesn't he have to give us a 30-60 day notice?

No. If you don't pay the rent due within the three days, the landlord is within his rights to file an unlawful detainer (eviction) lawsuit. Make sure you answer within five days after you were served with the summons and complaint.
