Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

My husband received a summons for a civil lawsuit that claims he has failed to allow a repossession of vehicle which was repossessed (voluntarily) and sold at an auction. He has 30 calendar days to respond to the california superior court in a written response form. Where can I find this form and how can we protect ourselves?
