Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Impounding of vehicles
I was issued citations for having non-operational vehichles on my property. They are considered non-op, because they are not current in registration. I did not correct the problem quickly, so, after 20 days, the vehicles were impounded.
They are decent vehicles, having value, not junkers, a motorhome and a van. I have too many things to do to deal with all of this, so I am willing to allow them to just take the vehicles, I will sign them of, just to be rid of the problem.
However, I cannot locate the papaerwork for them. I can apply for duplicate titles, but am told this will take six weeks. Meanwhile, they will be accruing storage fees at $120 a day each, amounting to over $10,000.
Now, I am willing to have the state deprive me of lawfully gained personal property, but to be charged $10,000 for that priveledge, I can do with out.
How do I quiclky divest myself of this property, or otherwise make this go away, I would have to sell my home to come up with $10,000 at this point in my life.
Plese help, this is unjust!

Re: Impounding of vehicles
If they seize them like this, they will end up selling them to pay the storage. You should not be liable for the storage beyond what they get at sale. You should understand, all these issues are negotiable, including return of the vehicles, but would cost money for attorney fees, so may not be worth doing.
