Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
An inmates aching back
My brother is an inmate at a CA prison. He was told in 1997 he would need back sergery (MRI told story).
Shortly after he was transfered to another prison 500 miles away (on a bus), when he arived they said they lost the MRI. It was 6 months before he was able to get a new one. Oct. 2000 he had surgery. Less then 1 week later he was back in his cell, with only asprin for the pain, then they put him in the SHU because of something that had been cleared up a long time ago. In the SHU he had no special mattress, his cain, asprin or shoes. Things his Dr. said he needs to heal. What can we do? There is more details but no more space.

Prisoner's rights
My best advice to you is to write a letter giving ALL information, including your brother's address and inmate ID # to Maria at:
Prison Law Office
General Delivery
San Quentin, CA 94964
or send your letter by fax to:(415) 457-9151
This non-profit organization has worked for prisoner's rights in California for many years. They know exactly who to contact and what actions to take since that's all they do.
They do not accept phone calls from non-lawyers. You must write to them and its best to have your brother write, even if you write the letter for him, mail it to him for him to sign and then mail it to them, since attorneys are generally prohibited from contacting clients first, but must be contacted by the client/affected person and be asked for help.
