Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

License to carry a concealed pistol

Greetings,

In California, in order to carry a concealed and loaded handgun in public, requires a CCW License. Unfortunatley most Sherriff's Departments and Police Chiefs refuse to issue them to anyone except for judges and reseerve police officers, but rarely ever to the general public. Especially in LA County. I would like to know, If I applied for

a CCW License in California (CCW=

Carry concealed Weapon License) and my local Police CHief DENIED my application based SOLEY on the

fact that he didn't think I have a good enough ''need'' for such a license. What kind of legal recourse can I take to havae my application re-considered and possibly get a CCW in some other way from him or some other legally permissable method for obtaining the CCW?

Recourse? None. Depending upon your locale, it is the police chief's, or sheriff's, discretion to approve or not, based upon his interpretation of valid need as required under CA law. Reapply with a better and properly substantiated need, or move to a different county and reapply there, where they are more easily obtained. Or, work to implement change in CA law to allow 'shall issue' instead of discretionary issue as it is now.
