Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Minor's Religious Freedom

I have a friend who has recieved a full-ride scholarship to a UC to play baseball. However, is parents are not aware of the fact that he is playing baseball. He has not disclosed that information with them because his family is Jehovah's Witness, and therefore, it is against his parents religion to play baseball. If his parents found out he would not be allowed to play. He himself does not believe in the Jehovah's Witness and no longer wants to be a Jehovah's Witness. If his parent's find out he is playing baseball they will enforce their religion upon him and make him quit, and they will make him attend church (forcibly). Do his parents have the right to make him prectice his religion.

Re: Minor's Religious Freedom

When he turns 18, he can determine what to do. Until then, his parents are in control and would have to sign any agreements and scholarship docs.

He may be old enough to be emancipated.
