Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

I went with a nonprofit organization to modify my home and I paided them 499.00 down and 199.00 a month and now its been 8 months my loan company denied it said paperwork not submitted right and on time I am now 18000.00 in the hole and they will not call me or answer any emails from me and i had someone look them up and since june 2010 they have had several people post on the internet that they have lost their home because of this company and they have changed their name 4 times and the DBA on all of them are under the same name. Do I have any rights and what can i do and would someone do it pro bono or until settlement is done?

Sure, you have 'rights', but in your situation, your most likely remedy is to sue them for breach of agreement and fraud. You can report them to Dept of Real Estate, the Attorney General, and to the local police/DA for potential criminal violations. If it is a scam, as many/most of the load mod operations are, there won't be any money left in the company by the time you sue. Also, it seems questionable that this is a 'non-profit' and yet charging you money.
