Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Officer conduct toward inmate in custody

While in custody, I was verbally assaulted by the officer on duty. She called me a moron, said that I was clueless, and that I had better get a clue before I reported to custody the next weekend. My question is; Is verbal harrassment and belittling of inmates permitted and if not what is the regulation.

Is this a serious question? Compared to what COULD have happened to you in jail, you should consider yourself extremely lucky.

The answer is, you have no legal recourse except to file a complaint with the authorities who run the jail, usually the County Sheriff's office or the county department of corrections.

As a practical matter, they'll enjoy it as the best laugh they've had in a while and probably throw it in the trash after you leave.
