I went to prison 18 yrs ago for D.U.I.'s Is is not a violent crime3 is it possible to pass a back ground check to own a gun today..

If you actually were sentenced to 'prison' and not just jail, then you are a convicted felon. That means you are barred for life from possessing any firearms or ammo. If you actually were only sentenced to 'jail' on a misdemeanor, that ban does not apply.
