Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
senior statements from elder care home facility
I spoke with a neighbor via his son's cell phone last Sunday when he was ''not allowed'' to go out to lunch. I was bothered by some of his statements: ''I'm stuck inside these 4 walls''; ''I'm not allowed to go outside''; ''I'm being held prisoner''; ''get me a lawyer, I have money''; I'll do whatever or sign whatever it takes to get out of here!'' He's worried/scared.
He's apparently not allowed his mail, or to make/receive phone calls either. When children/grandchildren call -- make excuses why he cannot come to phone ''He's asleep'' ''showering'', ''eating'', etc.

Its called "isolation," and it's a form of elder abuse for which he can sue.
Re: senior statements from elder care home facility
If you actually think there is a problem with 'elder abuse', call Social Services and report it. However, if he is in a full care facility as indicated in your posting title, he is there for a reason, and he logically will not be allowed to leave without supervision. If he is in his own home, or family's, as indicated in the body of your posting, there is more reason to be suspicious. In either case, go try to visit him and see what happens, and ask for explanations from the people. If you then conclude he needs legal help, feel free to contact me.
