Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Slander

I recently applied for a job. When i recieved a call for an interview i turned the position down. The employer verbally abused me on the telephone before i hung up on him. He called back and verbally abused me once again and said he was going to call all of my references on my resume and tell them how much of an explitive i am. He called my current employer and used profain words against me and said i was a liar, i was shady, and an arrogant profaine. Obviously trying to get me fired. Keep in mind i talked to this person once and have never met them in person. He then called my parents house, they had their number for an emergency contact on the employment application, and cused them out about me, used sexual remarks between me and my mother, and cursed my family as a whole on their answering machine. They saved the message. Can i file a law suit for slander against this man and his company?

Re: Slander

Slander, if the information given to your employer was false; also for interference with contractual relations, and for intentional infliction of emotional distress. Pretty stupid of him to leave an answering machine message. But you're (conveniently) leaving out the part about what exactly he said, and what exactly it was that got the guy so upset.

Re: Slander

Yes, but, also call the police and try to file a complaint against him. Filing civil suit against him and the company he works for requires you weigh the costs vs the risks/rewards to determine if it makes sense to do so, other than just 'on principle'. While you might be able to win such suit, could you collect enough from a judgment to repay what you have spent? That will depend upon the amount of the judgment and on defendants. If they have nothing, then that is what you'd recover. IF this is an ongoing decent size company, that's positive. Feel free to contact me if serious about pursuing this.
