Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

taking pics of a minors markings

An officer took pictures of 4 ink dots on my son's hand at his High School. Is it legal for him to do this? Someone told me it was illegal to take pictures of markings on a minor without the parents knowlege or presence. It was ink, not a tattoo and was washed off. Does an officer have the right to search a student just for wearing red?

Re: taking pics of a minors markings

It's a well established gang tracking procedure. The picture data base provides a means of identifying gang members and wannabe's, and helps in prosecution for crimes. If your son is not a banger or wannabe, he'd be well advised not to act like one.
