Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California
Termination & Defamation
I have been a successful franchise executive for over 10 years. Recently I was terminated because the company ''is abondoning the franchise program'' and ''lack of performance'' of the 22 months I was with the company 11 of those months I could not legally sell a franchise because of state registration issues. The COO is telling industry professionals and clients I have worked with that I was terminated because I could not sell and that they were over paying me. This can potentially destroy my reputation in my industry which has been stellar up until my association with this company.

Re: Termination & Defamation
Theoretically, if they are making 'false' statements, rather than statements of opinion, you could sue for slander and try to prove the falsity and damage done you. Doing so would also damage you in the industry, by being known as 'suit happy'. The call is yours. Better would be to have your attorney contact them to 'educate' them into stopping. Feel free to contact me if serious about doing so.
