Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

help!!!

i got a ticket when i was 18 years old for petty theft. my intensions werent to miss court but i overlooked the date and tryed going a day to late, when i realized what the actual date was i freaked out and never went, it is now almost three years later and i need to get it taken care of... but i dont want to go to jail because i recently gave birth to my son. what do i do?

Go turn yourself into the court and submit to its jurisdiction, then handle the case like it should have been originally. IF you hire an attorney, he can go without you and negotiate a 'deal' without the risk of you being arrested upon appearing in court. You can expect to have to pay a fine for the FTA and warrant, plus suffer whatever appropriate penalties apply to your charges. Typically, I would expect to be able to negotiate a plea bargain that includes fines and not jail on a first time petty theft charge. A long rap sheet changes that.
