Victim of illegal wiretap / cell phone scanning

Someone is illegally eavesdropping on my telephone calls. At work, they blatantly tell me what they heard me talk about on the phone. It's very annoying because sometimes they are about private matters that no one at work has any business knowing about. I don't know what to do. What are my rights? Does my employer have the right to do this? Shouldn't I be informed? It's been going on for about a year and a half. I'm in the education field. Please advise. Thanks.

You have limited rights to privacy at work; employers are free to monitor calls, subject to notifying employees that it is the policy to do so. However, 'they' are also not supposed to disclose to other employees what 'they' hear; it could give grounds for legal action in some circumstances. Complain in writing to the company if that is what is happening. You might consider having counsel do this for you, as it would carry a lot more weight than you.
