Bankruptcy of contractor
What is my recorse in trying to obtain money owed to me from a remodeling contractor when I suspect he is going to file bankruptcy. $6100.00

Sue him in small claims immediately so that the debt is liquidated and you won't have to prove it in bankruptcy court. Also, be sure to sue his license bond; the claim against the bond will not be barred by the bankruptcy, but it may be pro-rated if there are other claimants.

File a claim on his bond, and file suit. If he goes BK, the bond will be the only thing likely to pay you anything.

Follow the advice you have received and file on the Bond ASAP. Of course, this assumes that the contractor is licensed.
