Legal Question in Construction Law in California
home construction
we recently had some remodeling done to our home, and gave ther contactor 9,000 up front for materials. he hasn't yet given us a statement or asked for the remainder due, after calling him several times. Any suggestions?

You don't say, but I assume the project is not completed. Is it even started? Does he have a contractor's license? Check with the state contractor's license board. If yes, file a complaint with his license bond. If no, talk with your local police department/district attorney. Can you put a stop payment on the check???

If the work is done, and he hasn't been paid, don't worry, he'll bill you. Then you can resolve any disputes.
