Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Abstract Judgment
An abstract judgment was placed on my property without notice from a rental agreement in california over 22 years ago. Is there a statute of limitations regarding judgments? Also, I was never served to defend myself against this judgement - I was just notified by the recorders office about this situation. What is my recourse?

Re: Abstract Judgment
The statute of limitations for a contract is four years, so this would be well outside of that; however, because you were never served and had no opportunity to defend yourself, a judgment could have been issued regardless of the statute of limitation issue. What you will need to do is file a motion to vacate the default judgment. Our practice handles these regularly for an an inclusive fixed fee. Feel free to contact me if you would like more information.
