Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
What happens if you were not given copies of cancellation procedures?
I signed a contract with an alarm company to have a free alarm installed. I was only supossed to be respoinsible for the monthly monitering fee of $39.99 a month. I signed on Tuesday evening without discussing it with my husband. I was not given any copies of the contract including the proper cancellation period and rules. On Saturday morning after my husband decided not to do it I called to cancel. They told me that I was 12 hours past the cancellation period. And now I have to either have it installed as I signed or pay 75% of the two year contract monthly fees. Is their anything I can do since I was not provided with the proper paperwork which would have told me of the time period which I could cancel?

Next time you sign a contract, read it first, discuss it with your husband away from the presence of the salesperson, and do not sign it unless you receive a copy.
