Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Estimate on work to be done

I brought my son's trombone into a music store for an estimate on a dent. The receipt said CALL WITH ESTIMATE. They completed the work without permission and now they want us to pay for it to get the trombone back. Do we have any right to demand the trombone back without paying?

Yes, if you did not give authorization for the repairs, but rather just for an estimate, the business at issue cannot charge you for the unautorized work done, or for the reasonable value of the unauthorized services performed without your consent.
