Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
But I have a receipt!
5 months ago I purchased a vehicle. At that time, I submitted a $10,000 downpayment, using Traveller's Cheques, as I had just been transferred to CA from Japan. I received a receipt and 2 contracts specifying that I paid, and the dealership received $10,000. Now, they are saying that I only paid $9,100, and I owe them $900. They have copies of nine $1,000 cheques, and one $100 cheque I gave them; however, I believe I paid them the final $1,000 with ten $100 cheques, as I did not have ten $1,000 cheques with me. I don't have records of the TC numbers, but do have the receipt and contracts. They have threatened to refer this to a collection agency (of which I don't want). Do I have to cough up the $900? Or do I have a case? Thank you.
