Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Calif E.D.D
In 1995 I was hired in March but didn't start until May(resort area) and my un employment checks were going to stop by then. When I got my first over payment notice for 216.00 from E.D.D. (in 95) I was basiclly told I collect a check while I was working(which I didn't) Soon after the business closed. Every month I get a bill from E.D.D, but after all these years the amount owed is now in the thousands !! I know I should have taken care of this at the time, but didn't. There's also an Abstract of Judgement filed in 1995 with the court, At this point is there any appeal I can file to at least get the interest cost off the debt, or any way to reduce the amount owed. I was told by E.D.D ,I had 30 days to appeal the judgement, great that was 12 years ago and every month the debt continues to grow.

Too bad you didn't deal with this back in 1995. Did you know there is a California law that says, you snooze, you lose? Cal. Civil Code Section 3527 says, "The law helps the vigilant, before those who sleep on their rights." It could be that EDD will settle for 50 cents on the dollar, but probably not. You have nothing to lose by asking! 12 more years and, who knows, your tab could run into the tens of thousands.
