Re: Civil law timeline
The trial date is set according to the court's calendar and work load. At some point in time, the court will schedule a Case Management Conference ("CMC"). Some courts schedule the CMC when the case is filed and other courts schedule the CMC after one of the defendant's files an appearance in the case.
The CMC is usually when court will set a trial date or make other orders to move the case along. The parties are required to complete and file Case Management Statements that help court decide if the matter is ready to be set for trial or not.
The court made order the matter to trial, to mediation for to have a follow up CMC. Setting a trail date in a collection lawsuit generally does not require the Plaintiff to file any specific documents.
