Once a judgement is filed against me, can I file for bankruptcy to avoid having to pay?

It depends on what the judgment was for. If it is a judgment for fraud, bankruptcy may not be an option.
I suggest you contact a local bankruptcy attorney for assistance. Many will provide a free consultation to determine if bankruptcy is right for you.
Good luck.
