Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I received a call about a debt from 2007. I was in aware this had been a issue at all . I was told I had 3 hours to pay 515 to them or they were to had my file to the DA and issue a warrant. I recently got out of jail and doing everything to stay out. My daughter is terminally ill and is in the hospital. I told them I cant cone up with that much . I sent them $20 to start as a payment , but the continue to call me daily for money. I wont have it till may at least but I agree to sent them something every month. What can I do about them constantly harassing me everyday. My child could die, I will send them something but I cant pull money out of the air.

I am terribly sorry about your daughter. The "debt" from 2007 is probably too old to be legally collectible, that and the threat of criminal prosecution are both unfair debt collection practices for which you can sue them. I would like to hear more. Watch out for legal time limits. I sure hope you didn't give them your banking info, if you did you will need to close the account.
