243(a)

I was convicted of a 243A in California 20 yrs ago no other crimes since.Will this prevent me from owning a firearm if expunged?

IF you are barred from firearms ownership by a conviction, expungement will NOT change that. It MAY be possible to petition the court for a specific order restoring firearms rights in some cases. Success depends upon convincing the court it should do so in the interests of justice.

However, 243(a) is a misdemeanor, which should not be a bar to ownership unless that was part of the court's order, or if the conviction shows as 'domestic violence' or a restraining order was issued against you.
