Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Hi, I am 17 and a half years old. Just three weeks ago. I have been caught shoplifting at walmart. The items were well worth at least 600-800 dollars. I did not try to run and done my best to comply with the officers and loss prevention. I have just received a letter in the mail from the city PD, that a petition has been filed with the juvenile probation department. The violations being 459 PC burglary (commercial) and 466 PC. This is not my first crime as I have been charged with a shoplifting misdemeanor in the last two years. I desperately wish for someone to access my situation and possibly tell me what to expect in the nearing future. Thank you. This is from the state of California.

You're in serious trouble. Not only did you commit a felony, but you apparently confessed to the police and admitted your crime to the loss prevention officers. You should have kept your mouth shut. It's not clear exactly what you said to whom, but it surely made your situation a lot worse than it was before. The right to remain silent is there for a reason.
You need to get a lawyer to represent you asap. If your family can't afford one, the court will appoint one for you. You could be sentenced to the custody of the California Youth Authority (sort of like prison for young people, but not as harsh) for this. It could severely impact your future. You need the best defense you can get.
And in the meantime, you need to stop talking with anyone else about what happened.
Good luck.
I agree with Mr. Hoffman. When he says don't talk about it, this includes not talking about the facts of the case online also.
Repeat offenders are going to be more harshly dealt with by the prosecutor and court. You also probably face probation violation charges, in addition to the felony. I suggest you hire counsel to represent you unless you know how to effectively do so yourself. If serious, feel free to contact me.
